The First Olive Oil Awards for 2019: Flos Olei

Marco Oreggia has released previews of the 2019 Flos Olei Guide to excellent olive oil from around the world. Traditionally, this guide is released in December at an awards ceremony in Rome. We begin by celebrating the producers with the highest scores, 99.

For the purposes of the “99” scores, we have chosen to represent these elite producers in this photo with one notable bottle from each producer (left to right).

Fattoria Ramerino Cultivar Frantoio Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Bonamini DOP Veneto Valpolicella Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Quattrociocchi Olivastro Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Fonte di Foiano Grand Cru Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Frantoio Franci Villa Magra Grand Cru Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Why would you select these olive oils? Certainly to taste the best Italy has to offer. Marco Oreggia’s Flos Olei Guide is as important as Robert Parker’s wine ratings! The peppery Fattoria Ramerino Cultivar Frantoio will add a peppery zest to your steak and soups. Bonamini’s DOP Veneto Valpolicella is ideal for Risotto, roast chicken, and delightful salads. Our stock on the herbaceous Quattrociocchi Olivastro Organic is a bit limited at this writing. It’s a versatile oil, terrific on vegetables and salads. Fonte di Foiano Grand Cru and Frantoio Franci Villa Magra Grand Cru as the best from Tuscany: drizzle generously on steak, pasta, grilled vegetables, beans, and tomato-based soups!
